Dreaming of the Other Mother

Lately I’ve been feeling kind of… Well less monsterous than usual, and after spending some time doing some real soul-searching, realized that I have a terrible crush on the Other Mother from Coraline. I mean I can’t stop thinking about her. Today I found myself at the Official Coraline website, which if you haven’t been there, is quite a treat. They have a number of creepy and fun things to do. For example, in the garden you can design your own monster flowers. You can also go to visit Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, who unfortunately aren’t in their mermaid and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus costumes. Spink and Forcible will, however read your tea leaves. You can also visit the Great Bobinky’s flat and see a mouse show.

I Heart the Other Mother

Of course, these attractions did very little to cure my heartsickness. The closest you can get to visiting the lovely Other Mother on the official site is to visit the Other Mother’s Workshop. *Sigh* On the plus site, when you visit the Other Mother’s Workshop, you have the opportunity to “button” your eyes. How excitingly grand!

Coraline Other Mother – Hot Production Photo

I ran across this photo while doing some research on the Coraline movie and looking for more pictures of Coraline’s neighbors, Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, who do a bizarre show as a mermaid and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and then shed their fat suits, become young again and do acrobatic routines for Coraline and the other Wybie. I don’t know about anybody else, but I think the Other Mother (a.k.a. The Beldam) is really hot, and I’m sure that in the movie she’s just playing her part and acting all mean and obsessed but in real life she’s really a very sweet and most likely haunted lady monster. Just check out this cleavage!

Yowza. (Quick update – I have created a Papercraft Coraline Doll.) Oh and here’s another shot from the scene with Spink and Forcible after they’ve appeared as a mermaid and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, with hundreds of Scottish Terriers watching. Don’t miss my central source for information on Coraline: Coraline Central.

... the attic, a vast raftered length lighted only by small blinking windows in the gable ends, and filled with a massed wreckage of chests, chairs, and spinning-wheels which infinite years of deposit had shrouded and festooned into monstrous and hellish shapes.
