Coraline Lenticular Cup Giveaway

Coraline Lenticular CupThis morning I announced a cup giveaway happening at Evil Buttons. Tonight I find myself giving away two of the same cups. The cups are lenticular, which is the kind of thing where the picture moves or changes when you look at it from different directions. These cups are being given away on behalf of Universal Home Entertainment to help announce the July 21 (next Tuesday!) release date of the Coraline DVD. To enter, comment on this post. Two winners will be chosen randomly. USA residents only, sorry! The giveaway ends July 21 at midnight Pacific Standard Time.

There is also a sweepstakes going on. Enter Coraline’s Secret Door Sweepstakes for a chance to win $10,000 cash grand prize, plus great daily prizes like DVDs, gift cards from iTunes, Amazon and more! – http://universal.promo.eprize.com/coraline/ You can enter once a day. I already did mine. If you play the game and you don’t get a prize, as a consolation you get to see the lovely Other Mother. And that is exactly what I say when I see her: “Yikes!” I also say “Ouch my broken heart.

Universal is also promoting the DVD release with this strange site http://www.coraline3dgarden.com To use this site you print out a page and then hold it in front of a webcam. Then when you move the paper, the website shows you Coraline’s 3D Garden. I haven’t been able to check it out because I have a Mac. (Don’t act all shocked. Most monsters use Macs.)

Do it! NOW! And report back to me. You might win a free cup. Then go order a Coraline DVD. Preorder at Amazon! Don’t miss my central source for information on Coraline on Dark in the Dark: Coraline Central.

More Alice in Wonderland 2010 Pictures

I’ve got more pictures from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland here. I know you all love big pictures of stuff (I do too) but these are as big as I could find them. Some of them were featured in a recent issue of Vanity Fair, which I don’t read, because I am too diabolical and complicated. Later note: The same pictures but bigger are now available here: Alice in Wonderland Pictures.

So we have here Anne Hathaway as the White Queen with the Dormouse. Is it me, or is she looking hungry? Here’s an article where Anne Hathaway talks about her role as the White Queen (she says it’s small) and also about working with Johnny Depp (she was spellbound.) Apparently, the White Queen doesn’t walk – she floats. She is also cute and psycho (sounds like a lot of my exes) and Hathaway likens her to a cute bunny rabbit with a knife.

Looking back at the photos, we have other characters with animals. Let’s play the naming game. I see the Mad Hatter with a hare. Maybe that’s the March Hare? We’ve got the Red Queen with a pig. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say maybe that’s the baby that the Duchess threw at Alice? Somebody tell me if I’m wrong. And of course we have Alice with the White Rabbit.

Things we are missing: A Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and the Jabberwock.

In case you came here wanting to see a hookah smoking Caterpillar, here is an awesome one from the (lightly NSFW site) Somefield.

Alice is looking pretty hot, but she needs to be more careful about her friends maybe. OK here’s the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland 2010 pictures:

And finally, my newest project is an Alice in Wonderland 2010 news site. Alice 2010. That’s an awesome name, huh? Don’t tell anybody that it’s run by a monster. I’m trying to be incognito.

MAD TEA: Paul Pape Designs

Last week I deviated from my usual MAD TEA format and featured an awesome HP Lovecraft sculpture. This week I’m going to do it again. Normally, MAD TEA would stand for Monster Art Dolls Toy Etsy Artists. See this page for details about MAD TEA.

Paul Pape Designs has a few items of interest. For starters, Pape has created an Other Mother “final form” doll, here is a gallery of images of the Other Mother.

* Sigh *

She is so good looking in the final form. It makes me heartsick. Oh why hasn’t she contacted me!?!

There are details about how he made the Other Mother figure on his blog. He has also designed and sells some other interesting Coraline items. He has created button eyes so that you can see what it’s like to be a ghost girl or boy. Paul sent me a pair of these button eyes to sample and they’re really cool (see my disclosure policy). His wife, who is a costume designer, has created an Other Mother dress. These are available in his web store. More photos of the Other Mother dress here.

Well that’s it for another edition of MAD TEA. See you again next Monday for more monster art dolls. Don’t miss my central source for information on Coraline on Dark in the Dark: Coraline Central.

Do you make monster art, monster dolls, monster toys, art dolls, artist toys, or stuff like that? Send an email with details to thedark (at) darkinthedark dot com. Obviously it should be something that people can buy and be weird!
